MW Florals: Vendor Showcase

Updated: Mar 26

Whatever you do, be different – that was the advice my mother gave me, and I can’t think of better advice for an entrepreneur. If you’re different, you will stand out.
-Anita Roddick

We love our boss babes who are taking the wedding industry by storm and we want to share them with you, too! Each month we will highlight some of our favorite photographers, hair and makeup artists, calligraphers, florists, estheticians, and other industry professionals to give you a glimpse of their incredible work and dedication to brides and grooms.⁣⁣

Today we are showcasing MW Florals LLC!

Start by introducing yourself! Tell us your name, business name, what you do, where you’re located, your services, and who you serve.

Hello! I’m Mikaela – the founder and wood flower florist behind MW Florals LLC. Wood flowers are an everlasting eco-friendly alternative to fresh florals. Each flower is hand assembled from thin sheets of repurposed, lightweight wood shavings. Shavings come from the Cassava plant root and are transformed into your luxurious and realistic wood wedding flowers. These flowers are hand crafted, require no sun or water, are hypoallergenic, biodegradable, and will last forever. While I am currently located in Lansing, MI – I can ship these wood flowers anywhere you’re located (most of my engaged couples have been out of state – the farthest I’ve shipped so far has been to California!). I love working with all couples and MW Florals is, and always will be, an LGBT+ friendly florist.

How long have you been working with wood flower arrangements? I have been working with wood flowers since 2015 and in 2019 I pursued training to learn how to hand-craft realistic wood flowers. Since 2019 I have been working with couples and turning their visions into everlasting wood wedding flowers!

What inspired you to begin your craft?

MW Florals started as a form of self-care, and a way to creatively express myself while pursuing a PhD in Criminal Justice. While it still serves this purpose, it has become much more! Not only am I grateful to have a flourishing small business, it has always been an honor and a pleasure to create eco-friendly and sustainable flowers for couples' big day!

What's on your playlist right now?

I’m either listening to Lizzo or 90’s/2000’s pop punk/punk bands – lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Blink-182.

What is one thing about your business that makes you unique? The most unique element of my business is my product! Wood flowers are truly an innovative way to be eco-friendly on your wedding day without sacrificing on the beauty of flowers. I can dye your flowers in nearly any color imaginable, and hand-craft your favorite flowers. One of my 2019 brides requested small orange blossoms be added to honor her husband’s heritage, and though I had not yet made them, I was able to create these and add them to her big day! (See photos of her beautiful bouquet below!) I truly love implementing elements that speak to each couple and bring YOU into your flowers.

What is one piece of advice you would offer a newly engaged couple as they plan their wedding?

As someone who has not planned a wedding, I cannot begin to imagine the stress and emotion that goes into the process. I can only assure couples that if they choose me as a wood flower florist for their big day, they will be a part of the process and able to see their flowers and designs before their actual day. My hope is that this not only relieves some stress and worry about whether their flowers will meet the vision in their minds, but also involve them and help them design and plan their day so it is truly everything they hoped it would be!

Who inspires you (it can be floral arranging specific or not)?

I have not only been inspired by, but taught by an amazing wood flower florist, Hannah Sola. In the wood flower world, she is hand-crafting unique and over-the-top creations that push the box and have influenced my business and creative growth in profound ways. I would truly not be the wood flower florist I am today without her!

Tell us about one of your favorite projects you’ve done as a vendor: A recent project I loved creating for was a collaborative styled shoot with local Michigan wedding vendors. (A few of my favorites are below and you can see more at!)

What is one thing you wish clients understood about your craft?

As wood flowers become more known, it has been fun to introduce couples to wood flowers, but also chat with those who already know a bit about them! I think the biggest thing I let my clients know up front is how involved this process can be. My quote forms are highly detailed, so clients know what style flowers, colors, and greeneries will go into their designs. From there, I send proofs once I have hand-mixed their custom dyes for approval, flower styles, and final photos of the assembled arrangements and bouquets. Because of this intricate process, I ask that couples book me in as advance as possible but provide at least five months before their wedding to avoid rush fees or me being booked.

Share one goal you have for your business right now.

My business goal is simple – continue creating wood flowers for amazing couples, while always working to better my craft and pushing myself to be a better florist.

Share one of your most recent wins from a past project or for a past client! For me, every wedding I create for (no matter how big or intimate) is a success if the clients are happy. I absolutely love hearing back from couples after their big day to hear how it went and see their photos. I take pride in every bouquet and arrangement I create and being able to be a small part of someone’s big day is a wonderful feeling – and something I do not take lightly.

Anything else you’d like to share?

It has been a true honor to create for couples and provide them with a keepsake from their wedding day. I love doing this work, and if you’d like to find out more, please find me at and on social media at @mwflorals!
